Featured Compositon: G-Spot Tornado for Percussion Ensemble by Frank Zappa/arr. D. Wallace

Frank Zappa’s G-Spot Tornado comes from his 1986 album Jazz from Hell. This challenging arrangement, by Doug Wallace, is written for 8 percussionists (or 7 plus electric bass), and is an exciting work for any college percussion ensemble. One part requires serious rock drumming (a la Rouse’s Bonham) and the other parts are full of mallet percussion (marimba, glockenspiel, vibes) and accessories. G-Spot Tornado encapsulates all the rhythmic intensity, melodic imagination, and excitement of the Zappa band in a great percussion ensemble work.
